With a new layer containing Text, open the Layer style pallette

by clicking the fx box at the bottom of the Layers pallette.

Check and select the Gradient Overlay Box at left
You can then change the colors of the overlay using the Gradient Editor,

CLICK THE GRADIENT CONTROLLER (SHOWN BELOW)
